Queen 1 was published in June of 1975 and is the first main digest of Manken Queen content to my knowledge. Since this is the first volume, it serves as an introduction of sorts to the audience. It contains several shoujo manga stories, some black and white rock illustrations, Queen-related doodles, and some info about Queen and their 1975 tour of Japan. It also contains a photocopied image of the thank you page the band sent to the Manken Queen staff ("with love and kisses"). Freddie did the lettering, thanking Hoshiai, Yoshimura, and another name I can't quite make out (possibly "Taira") in classic Queen-font style, and the band members all signed it. There is also a "Queen Introduction" page, where the artists who met the band wrote some quick impressions and anecdotes. These include that Freddie found Japanese girl fans scary after one tried to manhandle him; that Brian was of delicate physical condition and always wore scarves to stay warm; that John was very quiet and wandered around a lot; and that Roger was loud and talkative. Their functions in the band are listed as "John: Bass — Brian: Guitar — Roger: Drums — Freddie: Howl and Dance".
I have viewed a copy of this, and there are a few photos online. It's said that the logo the band helped design was printed on early covers, but I haven't found a copy of Manken Queen 1 with this logo yet. I'm not sure why it has a plain black cover in comparison to subsequent volumes, which all have elaborate illustrated covers. It could be due to the aforementioned foreclosure of the printer, but that's just conjecture on my part and I might be wrong. I know there is a misprinted copy floating around, skipping several pages in the middle. In any event, when viewing this volume, I remember being surprised by the juxtaposition of very Queen-centric content with completely unrelated shoujo manga stories that had seemingly nothing to do with rock music at all. It seems that shoujo manga and rock music were really adjacent in 1970s Japan.
