Queen in Japan

Front Page

Vol. 7 — Spring 1977

by Misako Ichikawa
Beginning with this issue, the fan club publication has been christened "Queen Magazine" like its English counterpart. Its tone has shifted accordingly—it feels much more like a traditional music magazine, with regular features, letters from the editor, and guest articles.

Sheer Heart Attack was sometimes advertised as "Queen III" in Japan.
One of the articles notes that Queen is fast becoming a "middle-aged band" (Brian and Freddie would turn 30 and 31 this year, respectively), and this fact is reflected with a more grown-up publication full of musical analysis and critical information. The magazine has also begun to publish more articles from the English-speaking fan club simply translated into Japanese, including a note from John Deacon in this issue.

There is an article written by Todd Rundgren in the front that originally appeared in the English-language publication Melody Maker, as well as a short feature on Roger's song Drowse, which was titled "さまよい" ("Wanderer") in Japan.
