Queen in Magazines

Queen as a subject has appeared in countless Japanese music and entertainment magazines throughout the past five decades. The earliest appearances in Japanese media that I can find occur in the first half of 1974; Queen's magazine appearances peaked in the mid-late 70s, and gradually slowed until after Freddie's passing. For the sake of my sanity, I am choosing to focus on original publications from the band's active heydays, 1973-1992.

This is my attempt to catalogue Queen appearances in Japanese Showa-era magazines, but it is by no means exhaustive. The two main sources of contemporaneous Japanese Queen interviews are Music Life and Ongaku Senka, which will form the main catalogue pages in this section, but there are many other publications to take note of as well. There are decent references available for some of the larger, more well-known publications, but because of the sheer amount of music media in print in Japan at the time (not to mention Queen's crossover appeal), it may be impossible to ever complete this list. My database will attempt to catalogue A. issues with Queen on the cover, B. what info or interviews, if any, were inside, and C. what extras (posters, booklets, pinups, etc) were originally included.

Many magazines, especially early on, only had Queen as a cover artist with little or no actual related content inside (Ongaku Senka in particular was guilty of this), so just because Queen appears on the cover doesn't necessarily mean it's a worthwhile purchase.
